For the past six years, Hotelschool The Hague has organised the Genio Worldwide Innovation Summit, bringing together the most excellent students and current leaders of the hospitality industry. During this summit, students from top- tier international hotel schools were challenged by an exciting real-life industry case, which they have presented to a prominent jury consisting of top CEO’s and Vice Presidents from the hospitality industry.
To better adapt and create urgency about the climate crises the industry is facing, Hotelschool The Hague decided in 2019 to focus on sustainability in combination with innovation to truly make a difference.
The team behind the Genio Worldwide Innovation Summit has therefore decided to use Genio’s success of the past 5 years and transform it into an even bigger and more focused innovation summit, centered around bringing the best of innovation, sustainability & talent into the first edition of the Sustainable Hospitality Challenge.
Having signed a partnership for the coming 5 years, the Challenge’s first finals will take place at the IHIF in Berlin (in March of 2020).
The Challenge’s ambition is to accelerate the development of sustainable hospitality in order to reach carbon neutrality. Future “test hotels” will aim to establish a climate-positive footprint without compromising outstanding guest experience. The challenge will also consider how the hospitality industry can make sustainable contributions across the entire value chain and be a positive force in local communities.
The vision of the SHC is one of our industry going from an exciting but resource-intensive sector to one which positively contributes to climate, culture and people with every new hotel construction.
During November’s last edition, the Jury of CEOs selected 5 teams to progress to the finals in Berlin. These 5 teams have received a new exciting and relevant life-case and have worked these past months in partnership with respected Technical Universities in order to provide sustainable solutions for this property. They will present their ideas to a jury panel of CEOs at the outset of the IHIF conference and the winning team will be announced on the main stage right after the IHIF CEO forum on 3 March 2020.
